This is “CBG Classic Master Video Series Vol.15”.

This was the last attempt at filming in 1987. I did plan to go to Aerosmith New Year’s Eve at the Worcester Centrum in Mass, but at this time I didn’t think I could film there.

KISS was one of my favorite bands from the 70’s, but they had gone through several changes by this time. Gone was the make-up, two original members and a few additional guitarists along the way. They hadn’t been on the road for 2 years and the last tour videos by Otto in Detroit, someone in NYC at MSG, and Ike R. in Fort Worth, TX were the inspiration along with some other videos to try this hobby. Now it was my turn to film Kiss.

This was one band that I would stare at the album covers and try to imagine what it would be like to see them when I was young. Only 10 years prior to this, they were one of the biggest bands on the planet. I got to see them in 1979 at Madison Square Garden in my 2nd concert ever. Now they are in New Haven and it was my first opportunity to capture them on videotape myself. I knew what to expect as I had just seen them a week earlier in Glens Falls, NY and Providence, RI. The setlists were rather heavy on the newer songs by then, the songs from the 80’s, not the 70’s, and the look was really different without makeup and costumes. They still were one of my favorite bands and I wanted to get a show they did with my own camera. I just got done filming Ted Nugent and everyone was in their seats pretty much waiting for Kiss to take the stage. It is always more relaxing if you film and the lights go on and then you start filming the headliner after the stage set changeover. Yes, anything can happen at any time, but there is a certain comfort that comes with you just having a positive experience moments before. It’s like shooting the basketball after halftime, some of the anxiety and anticipation of not knowing what will happen has subsided and you are into the game.

Then the lights drop and you hear those words ‘Alllllll Right New Haven….” And it is on. I was probably over amped for this show just because of my past interest and the moment finally being here…so alot of the zooming is too quick. But it was only concert number 7 that I was attempting to film. Enjoy the Hottest Band in The World! CBG5150 Posted to DIME 2014-06-13.
